So transistors.

So I was just finishing up my physics notes and I am thoroughly convinced that the transistor is the best invention of the 20th century.

It has allowed for so much of the things that we own; in fact if it hadn't been invented I would not be writing this blog post; at all as computers, the internet etc. would not exist. It has introduced us into the Information and Communication revolution.

I can't really be bothered to explain the physics of the semi-conductor within; yet it's pretty damn awesome.
Here is a picture.
  Do you agree?
What do you reckon was the 2nd most important invention in the 20th century?
and so far what is the best invention of the 21st century? (not the internet; it was invented last century. Also maybe think about the basis of certain inventions; like the cathode ray is the basis of the television)

Interesting fact: As of the the 31st of March, 2011; the internet has 2.095 billion users. Or 30.2% of the global population.
